A strategy of daily administration of low-dose 25(OH)D 3 has been evaluated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre RCT including 106 hospitalized patients with COVID-19 who had low serum 25(OH)D 3 concentrations (<30 ng/ml) when admitted, with the first results showing a significant increase in the percentage of lymphocytes as well as an overall trend towards a reduced need for hospitalization, duration of intensive care, need for respiratory support and mortality, but these differences were not statistically significant 224 .
