It is important to note that, although correlations were statistically highly significant, R 2 was highest in samples from SAm (>0.32) followed by EAfr (R 2 : ~0.1 to ~0.33), whereas in the other world regions R 2 was well below 0.1 and the standard error of Δ[Hb]/km was high indicating a weak dependency of [Hb] on residential altitude.
