As expected, exposure to a low ambient temperature of 4 °C resulted in a highly significant reduction in REM sleep from 15.3 ± 4.2% during the baseline night to 5.4 ± 3.0% during the cold night, which equals a suppression of 64.9% of nighttime REM sleep (post hoc test after lm model, p < 0.001).
