Between 1995 and 2010, the proportion of fungal infections in plants and animals recorded in the ProMED database (the Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases) increased from 1% to 7%, and a positive trend in the proportion of fungi infecting animals and plants was observed over the period of 2007–2011 with global fungal disease alerts [ 1 ].
