Despite these changes not being statistically significant, there was a highly significant decrease in the bone resorption index, calculated as change from baseline in the urine NTx:creatinine ratio divided by change in serum osteocalcin, suggesting that long-term treatment of hyponatraemia may potentially reverse hyponatraemia-induced resorptive bone loss. 22 In total, data from RCTs, summarised in Table 1 , have established tolvaptan as an agent, which is efficacious in increasing serum sodium levels and is associated with a low risk for overly rapid correction.
