On the other hand, the increasing overall cohort trend among Malaysian current smokers is most plausibly because of the increasing cohort trends among the Malays and other aborigines, since cigarette use among the Chinese remained almost constant at 12 to 13 cigarettes per day, whilst the Indians had the lowest mean cigarette use across birth cohorts and showed a decreasing trend in more recent cohorts.
