Among non-neonates between 1 and 3 years of age, the hazard for mechanical complications associated with a PICC was highest, although 2 previous studies showed a decreasing trend of mechanical complication rates with increasing age. 2 , 10 Two factors likely account for this finding: First, patients in this age group are more mobile than neonates.
