Among the upregulated genes encoding the PRs proteins, the gene encoding the peroxidase (PR-9) was highly significant, and besides its role in reactive oxygen species ( Matić et al., 2016 ) PR-9 is also involved in the formation of physical barriers against pathogens, including suberin formation in response to stresses such as wounding and pathogens ( Kashyap et al., 2021 ).
