Pearson correlation analysis of the linear relationship between mean abundance (MA; the mean number of mites per weevil) and the Poulin's index of discrepancy ( D ; a measure of intraspecific aggregation) of the seven mite taxa in the four mite assemblages showed a highly significant, strong negative correlation [ r (28) = −.81, p < .0001] (Figure 3 ).
