In the suture-wound model, mupirocin ointment had little or no effect, whereas a single dose of XF-73 dermal formulation had a highly significant effect, with a 2.52 log 10 reduction in the wound bacterial count (6.60 ± 0.27 log 10 CFU/wound) compared to the infected control (9.12 ± 0.25 log 10 CFU/wound) ( Figure 2C ; Table 4 ).
