Similar to the situation worldwide, polypharmacy is prevalent in the Brazilian context [ 4 – 6 ], and evidence indicates an increasing trend in the use of polypharmacy among the elderly in more recent birth cohorts (1927–1937) when compared to those of previous cohorts (1916–1926) in Brazil [ 7 ].
