When using linear mixed methods to investigate the relationship between household food security status and depressive symptoms ( online supplemental table S1 ), we found an increasing trend (P-trend=0.0003) in the depression symptoms score as the severity of food insecurity increased, with moderate and severe household food insecurity increasing depressive symptoms by 63.9% (95% CI −18.9% to 146.6%) and 120.9% (95% CI 33.3% to 208.5%), respectively, compared with household food security.
