A possible trend of “stabilization” in the amount of cINs in large-brained, long-living species, is supported by the highly similar pattern obtained by comparing young-adult with middle age stages in sheep, with young-adult and senior stages in chimpanzee ( Figure 4C ), indicating a long-lasting maintenance of the DCX + cell population in mammals with longer lifespan.
