We previously demonstrated that inhibition of the p38 MAPK pathway resulted in a highly significant inhibition of cell invasion by E. tenella (90%) ( 37 ), which is due to the effect on the parasite (70%) and also on the host cell (30%). p38 MAPK activation leads to the induction of cFos, which forms AP-1 complex (with FosB, Fra1, and Fra2) and binds in the regulatory regions of many genes ( 57 ) to regulate differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and immune response in a wide range of cell types ( 58 ).
