In a recent study conducted in the US, around 95% of gabapentin prescriptions in the US were for off-label pain management use and an increasing trend of overlapping use with opioid analgesics has also been observed 11 , despite strong evidence suggesting an increase in the risk of all-cause and drug-related hospitalisations from this combination 11 , 12 .
