There is a basic flaw to this simple system: it does not account for non-resistive loads, so in general it overestimates the used power, and the error may be significant for all appliances using some sort of electric engines such as washing machines, dishwashers, heat pumps (including refrigerators and air conditioners), and all appliances including a transformer, the main example being microwave ovens.
