Analysis of the Framingham study [ 39 ] data showed that the presence of microalbuminuria above the median, ≥ 3.9 μg/mg in men and ≥ 7.5 μg/mg in women, was associated with a threefold increased risk of CVD (adjusted HR 2.92, 95% CI 1.57 to 5.44, p < 0.001) and for a marginally insignificant increase in total mortality (adjusted HR 1.75, 95% CI 0.95 to 3.22, p = 0.08) compared to those with a lower-than-average UACR.
