1 In recent years, there has been an increasing trend of FGM being conducted in Somalia in health care settings by medical practitioners—popularly known as “medicalization of FGM.” The term “Medicalization of FGM” refers to a process where health care professionals (doctors, nurses, midwives, or other health professionals) perform FGM which may happen either in the house of the patient or at a health facility.
