This was the objective of a Danish cohort study, which found a decreasing trend in all-cause mortality in patients with alcohol-associated cirrhosis diagnosed between 1996 and 2013. 6 However, the study focused on all-cause mortality, which could disguise a constant or worsening trend in liver-related mortality if the mortality from extrahepatic diseases has improved. 6 Advances in health care for cirrhosis should primarily translate into lower liver-related mortality.
