When the soil carbon content exceeds the tipping point, autotrophic microbes no longer play a prevalent role and exhibit a decreasing trend relative to the whole microbial community. 2 A higher adaptability and growth rate of microbes critically contribute to carbon fixation in barren areas. 7 Thus, TC deserves much attention in the aforementioned regions as a soil microbial carbon sink.
