These findings support the postulate that the presence of the electron withdrawing anthraquinone carbonyls elevates the redox potential of the polyphenolic subgroups. Moreover, a decreasing trend in the reduction potential was observed with increasing degrees of hydroxylation of the anthraquinone periphery rings.
