During the study period, there was a positive trend in both the general scientific output on “amphibians” and for European plethodontids, expressed as the absolute number of papers published per year (Mann–Kendall trend test, Z = 3.831, p = 0.0001, and Z = 3.253, p = 0.001, for amphibian and Speleomantes papers, respectively).
