32–34 These findings demonstrate an increasing trend in correlation with the dosage administered, showing a rise of about 10% at a dose of 800 mg/m 2 . 31 The frequency of this condition is notably higher in individuals with a previous history of coronary heart disease, exhibiting an increase of approximately 5 to 10 times compared to those without such a history. 35 , 36 Cardiomyocytes and endothelial cells may potentially undergo apoptosis as a result of the cardiotoxicity caused by 5-FU, which might then result in the emergence of inflammatory lesions that resemble those seen in cases of toxic myocarditis.
