Glycolipid metabolism disorder (metabolic syndrome) Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of conditions that usually occur together to increase the risk of T2D and CVD, including hypertension, chronic hyperglycemia (T2D and impaired glucose tolerance [IGT]), and dyslipidemia (obesity, decreased high-density lipoprotein [HDL] level, increased low-density lipoprotein [LDL] or total cholesterol [TC] level), and its prevalence is approximately 25% of adults with an increasing trend at advanced ages ( 56 , 57 ).
