Estimated mean eGFR values at year 10 were identical for the monthly versus bimonthly belatacept maintenance groups (and significantly better than groups treated with cyclosporine-based immunosuppression), even though there was a nonsignificant trend toward increased rates of biopsy-proven rejection with patients administered belatacept only every 8 weeks. 25 However, all these rejections occurred early (within the first year) and it was unclear if the heightened risk of rejection could really be attributed to the interval of belatacept administration due to the double randomization trial design and lack of sufficient power.
