pneumoniae BSI cases show an increasing trend worldwide, with resistance to certain key antimicrobials such as ciprofloxacin, third-generation cephalosporins and carbapenems rising to alarming levels.[ 2 - 4 ] This is of great concern owing to the burden it places on patient safety, healthcare systems and the economy.
