Other studies have shown similar non-significant differences in mortality between patients with and without PAF after MVS, but show an increasing trend towards mortality or stroke and increased risk of recurrent myocardial infarction. 10 , 12 , 27 Previous studies have investigated the role of prophylactic surgical interventions to reduce the risk of new-onset PAF after cardiac surgery.
