Of note, the proportion of midwives reporting at least a moderate degree of emotional exhaustion was 69 % and 81 % in Study 1 (in 2014) and Study 2 (in 2022), respectively, which suggests a potential increasing trend in job demands and/or a decreasing trend in job resources over time.
