Indiscriminate and overuse of antimicrobials in livestock as prophylaxis and growth promotion could be a major contributing factor to the relatively high resistance, a study showed a highly significant correlation in the resistance to fluoroquinolones and third-generation cephalosporins between E . coli from human bloodstream infection and E . coli isolates from poultry, pigs, and cattle and this supports our assertion that asides from human AMC, livestock AMC could also be a significant AMR driver in humans [ 61 , 62 ].
