The results of our study suggest that the difference between the detection rates of Macrorhabdus ornithogaster in faeces by cytology and by qPCR was highly significant ( P < 0.01), and that faecal qPCR can detect positive individuals, with up to 100% accuracy in suspected cases, which greatly favours qPCR compared to other techniques.
