Indeed, simple effects analysis indicated that any effect was more likely in the other direction, with unmasked people perhaps appearing slightly more likely to be sick, t (1239) = 2.44, p = 0.015, d = 0.14, but this effect was small and did not quite reach significance according to the Satterthwaite-corrected alpha level of 0.01; nor was it significant in the linear model analysis including political orientation (see Table 2 ).
