In agreement with the concept that the archaeal/bacterial C5 pathway of δALA biosynthesis is not conserved in mammals because an ortholog of the glutamyl-tRNA reductase HemA does not exist, there was only a statistical trend for a 20% increase for the GltX ortholog EARS2, a mitochondrial glutamyl-tRNA synthase, in the CLPP-null mouse brain (see Table S3 in [ 47 ]).
