However, other key functions of AMPs, which we propose may be significant, are potent colon homeostasis functions, including anti-inflammatory properties, recruitment of immune cells, wound healing, and cytokine production, and our data support the idea that these functions may also be lost with the loss of AMPs ( Chen et al., 2019 ; Blyth et al., 2020 ; Shi et al., 2023 ).
