When this phenomenon is coupled with climate change projections, such as sea‐level rise (Fuentes et al., 2010 ; Lyons et al., 2020 ; Varela et al., 2019 ) and increased frequency of storm events (Laloë et al., 2021 ; Rivas et al., 2018 ), the consequence is a worrying trend of diminishing suitable nesting habitats (Fuentes et al., 2011 ).
