Considering that alpha-synuclein aggregates, a key hallmark of the disease, are detected in the ENS earlier than in the Substantia nigra , and non-motor symptoms precede motor symptoms in the course of the disease, a detailed examination of gut microbiota may be significant for the early diagnosis of the disease [ 39 ].
