Mixed-effects regression models explained ~21% of the variation in productivity, with diversity metrics explaining a highly significant, albeit small (up to ~1.7%), percent of the variation that could not be explained by ecoprovince, stand age, and initial biomass (partial R 2 for diversity effects, which is measured as the differences in R 2 between mixed-effects regression models including vs. not including diversity metrics; Table 1 and SI Appendix , Tables S1 and S3 ).
