Considering that proline plays a pivotal role in safeguarding cellular and organ integrity [ 28 ], and its metabolism can stabilize cell homeostasis under stress, it is reasonable that the proline spray on the leaf surfaces augmented the proline content inside the wheat flag leaves, although they showed a decreasing trend under mild drought conditions after rehydration in our study.
