Considering force data obtained from all insect individuals and all waxy plant surfaces tested (pooled data), we found a highly significant reduction (ca. 24-fold in average) of the maximum traction force F max on the waxy plant surfaces compared to those obtained in the corresponding first (control) force measurements on the glass substrate gl1 (paired t -test: t = 26.286, p < 0.001) ( Figure 6a ).
