Additionally, there is evidence that, apart from the level of income of the country or the definition used, there is an increasing trend in the prevalence of OA over time. 13 , 24 The reported trend in the burden of disease due to OA could be due to the progressive ageing of the global population, and prolonged exposure to risk factors such as obesity, occupational factors, genetics, and gender. 12 , 13 In this sense, our study shows a great percentage of patients with OA and UO with obesity and overweight compared with patients without OA.
