Since the decriminalization of the voluntary TOP law in 2007, a decreasing trend has been observed in the number of abortions performed, with a reversal of this trend between 2021 and 2022 where 15,870 voluntary TOPs were performed in Portugal, at the woman’s option, up to 10 weeks of gestation, representing an increase of 15.0% compared to the previous year [ 10 ].
