Overexpressing adiponectin in leptin-deficient ( ob/ob) mice results in decreased plasma glucose and insulin levels, increased liver and muscle insulin sensitivity (which is thought to be due to decreased fat content), significantly increased mass of adipose tissue (these mice were morbidly obese) and a highly significant lowering of plasma triglycerides and FFAs.
