Immunohistochemistry (IHC) clearly revealed the changes in these two cell types: the MØs were nearly absent in the periosteal tissue before the skull injury (all REGs) ( Figure 5 A); however, more MØs appeared in the periosteal tissue adjacent to the injury site (REG 1–3), with an increasing trend over time ( Figure 5 A).
