Introduction Crohn disease (CD) is a chronic gastrointestinal inflammatory disease, with an estimated incidence rate ranging from 0.3 to 12.7 new cases per 100,000 people in Europe 1 and showing an increasing trend in both adults and children. 2 , 3 Most cases are diagnosed during third and fourth decades of life although it may also affect children or older individuals. 1 It may involve any segment along the gastrointestinal tract, most commonly terminal ileum and colon.
