Instead, we found that heat stress period (i.e., before versus after the event; z = −22.538, P < 0.001) and local disturbance ( z = −3.643, P < 0.001) were both highly significant predictors of coral cover; NPP was also statistically significant (quadratic relationship; linear term: z = −1.669, P = 0.095 and quadratic term: z = −2.240, P = 0.025).
