Recent research in Sweden [ 15 ] and Ohio, the United States [ 16 ] found a decreasing trend in PFAS levels in maternal serum, possibly due to maternal physiological changes during pregnancy, such as increased body weight and blood volume [ 17 ], or the transmission of PFAS from the mother to fetal tissues, such as fetal lung and liver [ 18 ].
