At the carbon metabolism level, drought stress significantly affected the relative abundance of functional genes involved in inositol phosphate metabolism, whereas nitrogen deposition had a highly significant impact on the relative abundance of functional genes involved in C5-branched dibasic acid metabolism, citrate cycle, fructose, and mannose metabolism, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, glyoxylate, and dicarboxylate metabolism, pentose and glucuronate interconversions, propanoate metabolism, pyruvate metabolism, carbon fixation in photosynthetic organisms, and carbon fixation pathways in prokaryotes ( Table 4 ).
