Analysis of rational prescription of medicines by village clinics: a repeated cross-sectional study of a province in eastern China.

In 2009, 2012 and 2018, the average number of drugs per prescription was 3.66, 3.29 and 2.77, respectively, the percentage of prescriptions including antibiotics was 65.40%, 62.31% and 46.00%, respectively, and the percentage of prescriptions including injections was 55.75%, 49.66% and 37.48%, respectively, all of which showed a decreasing trend (p<0.01).

Furthermore, in 2009, 2012 and 2018, the percentage of drugs prescribed from the essential medicine list was 66.50%, 78.50% and 80.34%, respectively, and the percentage of drugs prescribed using generic names was 61.29%, 70.90% and 70.65%, respectively, all of which initially showed an increasing trend and then stabilised (p<0.01) ( table 3 ).
