Interestingly, TFPI-2 was detected in atheroma, in close proximity to tissue factor and factor VII, and also to plasmin/plasminogen on macrophages and on ECs, suggesting that TFPI-2 may be significant to the functional regulation of plasmin activity and proteolytic mechanisms in atherosclerotic lesions [ 42 ].
