American scientists George Glenner (1927-1995) and Cai’ne Wong took notice of Alzheimer’s work in 1984 and studied senile plaques further, identifying beta-amyloid proteins (the substance that the senile plaques are composed of) as playing a prime role in the cell regression of AD, which proved to be an incredibly significant finding in the development of modern pharmaceutical treatments [ 16 - 17 ].
