According to our protocol, the second-stage procedure was done only when there was no clinical recurrence of the infection, the patient presented a nutritional recovery (optimization of pre-operative albumin and total protein blood levels, and optimal blood glucose control), and a decreasing trend in C-reactive protein was observed.
